Not everyone enjoys three days geeking out over the latest technology, but then again, not everyone is as fanatical about software as we are.

352 is hosting a free hackathon Jan. 17-19 for anyone who wants to learn the MEAN Stack technology: MongoDB, ExpressJS, AngularJS and Node.js.

Event Details
What: MEAN Stack Hackathon

Where: 352, 422 SW 140th Terrace, Newberry, FL
Cost: Free + We feed you.
Info: Email Larry Hipp, Director of Software Development

Come work alongside our developers as they dive into MEAN for the first time. All skill levels are welcome to attend, even if you’ve never tried MEAN before and want to learn how JavaScript can jumpstart your development cycle.

At the end of the weekend, we hope to have a content-managed website in a production environment that’s fully tested and running on MongoDB.

And here’s the kicker: It’ll all be open source.

“The community support the MEAN stack is open source,” said Larry Hipp, 352’s director of software development. “We want to be more than consumers of these technologies; we want to contribute and give back to the people who use it.”

This will also be the beginning of 352 upgrading its codebase from .NET to MEAN stack, parts of which will also be open sourced for the development community to iterate and expand on.

352’s move to MEAN stack will allow its developers to use JavaScript for full-stack development, increasing their productivity and simplifying the code. Instead of multiple languages, there’s just one.

“This gives me a chance to finally use all these new programs and skills that I’ve been learning about for the past few months in a production-like environment,” said Dennis Pelton, 352’s network support technician.
