For the 2nd year in a row, two Florida-based companies have teamed up with two simple goals: fight cancer and grow some seriously sweet mustaches.

Digital agency 352 and medical device company Exactech joined their forces once again to raise money for Movember, a global fundraiser where men grow mustaches to raise money and awareness for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

Last year, their team, The Grooming Standard, raised more than $24,000, ranking them 41th nationally out of 15,000 teams. This year, their goal is $30,000 or more.

Mike Cushing, a marketing strategist at 352, has been passionate about Movember for three years, but this year, it hits a little closer to home.

“My father began treatment for prostate cancer just last month, so this time it’s personal,” said Cushing, who hopes to raise $750.

“I see all the consequences that can come from not taking care of your body,” said Oded Eshel, Exactech’s Clinical Consultant and The Grooming Standard team captain. “It’s incredible to be a part of something that educates and empowers people to take responsibility of their health into their own hands.”

Eshel’s main job is motivating the team to keep fundraising all month long, which he says he plans to do by “constant communication, humor, YouTube videos (almost all including explosions) and good old fashioned terror.”

So far, The Grooming Standard has 43 people, comprising of employees and friends of 352 and Exactech — and even two women or “Mo Sistas” — committed to the cause, but Cushing and Eshel expect more to join in the beginning of November.

The team started when a mutual friend of Cushing and Eshel’s was diagnosed with testicular cancer when they were in college. This is the fourth year The Grooming Standard has participated in Movember.

Both Eshel and Cushing said the mustache is the easy part. It’s the shaving the rest of their facial hair that’s the most difficult thing to cope with.

“I think I look more thoughtful in business meetings when I stroke my mustache, so there can be significant corporate advancement benefits that come with Movember,” Eshel said.
